the cranes are flying.

Today I watched a marathon of films. The best by far was a beautifully poignant film called The Cranes Are Flying. A Russian film made in 1957, directed by Mikhail Kalatozov, about the separation of a couple by war. It's the best film I've seen in a long while - the cinematography was astounding, the lighting was perfect, the performances (particularly Tatyana Samojlova) were fantastic and the story was heartbreaking. If you'd like to watch an emotionally engaging and visually stunning film, I'd highly recommend this one.
